Cosmetic surgery is more and more important in society today. More and more people choose for these kinds of treatment in order to improve imperfections or the first signs of ageing.
To achieve your goals in society, it always has been helpful to be in the right shape and to be confident of yourself. Many studies have proven that normally looking people are doing better in many aspects of their lives. We aim to assist them in this cruisade for personal luck.
Cosmetic surgery is not reconstructive surgery, in its true sense, although it can be just that for some patients. However, cosmetic surgery started from reconstructive surgery, and in many cases we need the techniques of reconstructive surgery to achieve that goal. Therefore, every surgeon mentioned in this website also works part-time in the Belgian NHS , which is one of the most appreciated health care systems in the world.
Therefore, they have the flexibility to suggest your surgery in a private clinic, or if the surgery is more difficult in the Belgian NHS hospital. You always will get a personal treatment, and will never feel like a number.
Unfortunately the cost of cosmetic surgery for some people is too high. By bringing our consultations too London, we can offer people a more affordable operation, whilst at the same time maintaining a high quality. The surgeons on this website have been trained both in Belgium and abroad (US , UK , and India). They are also fully registered with the Belgian and British GMC, and they are well insured. All surgeons who work within the Belgian NHS must be professionally insured, whilst this is not the case if a surgeon only would work in a private clinic.
Also, these surgeons always have the backup possibility of their NHS hospitals, which offer extra care like an emergency department, intensive care, radiology department, etc… In practical terms, this means that unforeseen complications can always be dealt with in an appropiate manner.
Approximately 5 % of patients consulting for an aesthetic procedure, are refused. The reasons are : - unrealistic expectations
- they look ‘good’ or ‘normal’ already
- they need another procedure then they had in mind
Our goal is to create satisfied patients , who look and function normally, at affordable prices.
All surgeons go on a regular base to international meetings in order to stay updated in the fast changing field of plastic surgery.
Only surgeons who are fully licensed and recognised by the government can call themselves 'plastic surgeon'.
This means that a so-called 'cosmetic surgeon' is not a plastic surgeon, and probably did not have the same training as a plastic surgeon. Plastic surgery training takes at least 6 years of training as a registrar , both in general and in plastic surgery.
Check out here if your Belgian plastic surgeon is recognised by the Belgian Government and thus, well insured. If he is not in this list , he is not recognised by the government, and thus, not insured by a Belgian insurance company. http://www.bspras.org/ Also check out whether he is on the GMC list : http://www.gmc-uk.org/register/search/index.asp |
The Sint-Jozef Kliniek (this would be translated as Saint Joseph hospital) is situated in Bornem, in the northern part of Belgium, close to the well known Flemish town of Antwerpen (20 km), but still only 30 kms (20 miles) from Brussels, the heart of European affairs.
Access to the clinic, by road, is very easy via the modern motorway system (please click here to see map and route description – 30 minutes by taxi ) or via rail, with the local railway station being just a 5 minute walk away from the hospital.
Parking facilities are also available on the premises.
There are three hotels close-by for accompanying relatives, friends and partners.
The hospital has a 24 hour Accident and Emergency department, as well as a full range of acute medical and surgical facilities (including Intensive Care). Night shifts are covered by a team of doctors and para-medic’s, all professionally trained in the treatment of acute emergency care.
In contrast to a private clinic, the patient can stay overnight in the hospital as long as is medically required. The word ‘Kliniek’ in Belgium can be slightly underestimated and somewhat misleading for non-Belgians, as a ‘Kliniek is a real hospital. In the UK, for example, a clinic is a private facility, whereas a hospital is a public hospital. By law, in Belgium, private clinics can only perform day-cases. Patients can only stay overnight in the hospitals that have been assessed by the government according to strict regulations. All hospitals in Belgium are public hospitals, but private patients are able to use their facilities.
There are 130 specialists working in the clinic, providing expert medical advice and surgical services, such as:
- Plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery
- Maternity and obstetrics
- Orthopaedic surgery
- Cardiology and internal medicine
- Radiology
- General and vascular surgery, Urology
- Physiotherapy
- etc.
As the healthcare system in Belgium is closely monitored by the authorities and has to abide by very rigorous laws, means that standards are of an extremely high quality. Before being able to practise in this hospital, every doctor is screened by the hospital management and by the medical board. All doctors must be well insured against medical indemnity, and registered with both, the Belgian Medical Council (Ordre des Medecins, the Belgian equivalent of the GMC) and with their own professional body.
The main priority of the clinic is to provide the patient with the highest possible degree of safety and security, whilst offering a quality service. The professional environment is guaranteed through our fully qualified, medics, para-medics and nurses.
To ensure your complete security, the clinic is equipped with the latest medical apparatus, along with the most sophisticated emergency equipment available.
Problem’s such as MRSA infection, which has known to be the cause of death in hospitals in other countries, are uncommon in Belgium, thanks to a strict policy to treat such patients. Sterilisation procedures in hospitals are also very strict, and are consistently regulated by the national authorities.
Our main concern goes to providing the best care to patients. Every day, all the doctors, nurses, and para-medics devote themselves with heart and soul to the patient's care and comfort.
The hospital can accommodate over 300 patients. The private (single) rooms are all equipped with toilet, bathroom, television and phone. The maximum number of people in a shared room is 4. Our Patients can choose between a single, double, or a 4 bedroom room.
Visiting times are variable and in some cases flexible, depending on the department, usually between 8.00 – 20.00.
